Alexander Zverev v Nicolas Jarry Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and both have won two apiece. All four matches came on clay.

They played once this year in Geneva and Jarry had won that in straight sets.

Zverev Tames Shapovalov

In his second match on grass since the end of the 2021 grass swing, Zverev showed that he is more or less back to his best as he routed Denis Shapovalov in a match lasting an hour and 16 minutes.

Zverev overpowered his Canadian opponent 6-2, 6-4 as he upped the ante with his serving. Winning a whopping 82% of his first serve points, Zverev also did not face a single break-point in the entire match while managing to get the better of Shapovalov’s serve thrice.

This followed an almost similar first round win over Dominic Thiem against whom he dropped a mere seven games in the match.

What Zverev will know is that grass isn’t quite his most preferred surface with the former world number two having not won any of his 19 titles at the highest level on it. The two times he did make it to the final was in this very tournament in Halle. Could this be the tournament where he turns things around?

Jarry Shocks Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas is not having the best of times on the tennis courts and that was on display yet again as he fell in straight sets to Nicolas Jarry in the second round of this competition.

Jarry, who is known for his clay court sparkle, did not have it straightforward but that was to be expected playing against someone ranked fifth in the world and having gone into the match as a 2/5 favourite.

In the end, Jarry needed an hour and 53 minutes but he came through 7-6 (7), 7-5 after saving one set-point in the tie-breaker and having himself frittered away three set-points in the process.

The second set also went to serve till the 11th game in which Jarry broke Tsitsipas before romping away to the win with a service game to love.

This follows a straight-set victory over Corentin Moutet in the first round for Jarry, who will now dream of upsetting a player on a roll and on a surface that’s not quite his favourite.

Zverev v Jarry Prediction and Tip

Zverev is 2/5 to win this and we will have to go with him for this one. Sure, Jarry has managed to send Tsitsipas packing but has he reached those levels of grass court tennis that he will manage a second such upset? Seems doubtful at the moment.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Zverev to win: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 23.5 games in the match: 5/6
