They played once before and Kecmanovic was able to win that match. It happened years ago on the Challenger Tour.

Kecmanovic Winless on Grass

Miomir Kecmanovic only played two grass matches so far and he lost both continuing a rather shaky trend for the Serbian on the surface. He’s never been particularly good on it having a 10-13 career record so far but he was certainly capable of winning matches.

Both matches this were were easy losses for him but they can be explained. His first one was against Milos Raonic who destroyed him with his serve. The Canadian is borderline unbreakable when he has his day on serve, especially on grass.

Losing to Cameron Norrie in Queen’s isn’t the biggest crime you can commit so while unfortunate, the losses don’t look as bad on paper. This upcoming match in Eastbourne is certainly a winnable one for him, as he goes against a player who hasn’t had much success on grass himself.

Generally, though it’s been a disappointing year for Kecmanovic so him disappointing once again wouldn’t be a shocked either.

Wu Earns First Win on Grass

Yibing Wu never played on grass before landing in Stuttgart for the ATP 250 event there. The draw paired him with Nick Kyrgios and so many pencilled the Australian to win the match. He didn’t as Kyrgios struggled with his fitness allowing Wu to win the match simply.

Since then it’s been a struggle though as he lost both matches that he played. First, it was a loss against Marton Fucsovics in three sets and then also against Andrey Rublev and he did well in both matches. Despite not having the most experience Wu looks capable on grass because of his playstyle.

He loves to attack and he loves to keep the points short, both of which work well on grass. The groundstrokes are also quite flat which benefits grass far more. It’s been a good year overall for him with a 17-12 record overall and this is certainly a winnable match for him.

He’ll need to play well but I do expect a close battle.

Kecmanovic v Wu Prediction and Tip

Kecmanovic is likely the better player overall but Wu can certainly win the match if he plays his best. I’m not sure if he gets it done but I do think that we’ll see a close match in three sets. The over looks very plausible.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
