Barrere Proving Tricky On Grass

Gregoire Barrere is the definition of a player that is lower ranked but very tricky ot beat. The French player served well in most of his matches and it’s very to really break him. His downfall in most matches is the inability to keep up that high level for a very long time or the duration of the match.

That’s why you’ll see many of his matches go the distance. Such was the case when he faced Ruusuvuori at Roland Garros a few weeks ago. The match went to five sets but ultimately Barrere failed to get it done. Things are not that different after moving to the grass.

He lost to Musetti in two sets in Stuttgart but in Halle, where the conditions are a bit more favourable to serves, Barrere nearly beat Tsitsipas. Eastbourne is a coastal town so there will be a lot of wind. That’s an issue for him but expect him to still produce a very solid level.

He’s 22-18 this year, 17-12 on grass for his career but only 1-2 this year.

Ruusuvuori Up and Down

Emil Ruusuvuori is an extremely talented player but much like his opponent, he struggles with consistency. He’s had some incredible performances this year and plenty of bad ones as well. The record is only 21-18 which is basically identical to how it looked like last year.

Grass is generally a good surface for him because his good forehand and flat groundstrokes allow him to play the way he wants to on the surface. He’s still only 11-10 on the surface for his career and 3-2 this year. It’s the consistency, that’s the main problem as he goes up and down during a match let alone an event.

The matchup is one he won earlier this year but once again it was a lot of up and down. He needed five sets to get it done and don’t be surprised if something similar happens in Eastbourne.

We might see three sets, we might see two sets but I do think that we’ll see Ruusuvouri ultimately winning the match.

Barrere v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip

This is a close one and we might see three sets but ultimately I do think Ruusuvuori will win it. Largely depends on what you prefer but I’m backing the Finnish player.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Ruusuvuori to win: 3/6
