Broady Shaky on Grass

Liam Broady has had a very decent season so far but his struggles on grass kind of surprised many. The overall record this year is 22 wins in 35 matches however only one of those was on grass. He’s 1-3 on grass this year despite being very familiar with the surface as a Brit.

He went 8-6 last year but actually, Broady doesn’t have a very good record on grass. He has 33 wins and 53 defeats on grass in his career which is a rather poor record. Especially for someone who essentially grew up around grass courts.

His best tennis comes on hard courts and he has a good lefty though it’s not working that well on grass. Taking on a fellow Brit won’t give him a huge advantage either as both of them know the surface well.

He actually lost to Choinski both times they played though both matches were exhibition matches and don’t count as official ATP ones.

Choinski Hoping For A Breakthrough

Jan Choinski has had a really decent year so far but the Brit certainly isn’t expected to ever break through among the top players in the world. His level can be good and he’s not far from a top 100 debut but it’s unlikely we will see him in the top 50 regularly moving forward.

Still, he’s pretty solid with a 25-19 record this year though it didn’t look too pretty on grass. He’s only 1-3 and 2-9 for his career. It’s strange for a player who is rather tall and has a really good serve but he doesn’t move that naturally on the surface.

It’s clear that he lacks the experience but his best surface clay also plays quite a bit differently than grass so that might be an issue. He’s just not too familiar with it. Even so, he beat Broady twice on hard courts so maybe he can get it done on grass as well.

Winning the match would be rather beneficial for him so don’t doubt his motivation.

Broady v Choinski Prediction and Tip

This promises to be a very competitive and close one. Broady is the better player but I could see Choinski winning the match. I’ll back the over as I’m not impressed with either player too much.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
