Keys Opens Grass Campaign
A winner at this tournament in 2014, Keys hasn’t quite been a regular here and has played a mere twice after that in Eastbourne.
What’s been a touch surprising is Keys hasn’t played on grass this season before this week, having missed two weeks of the grass swing otherwise. What that has meant is that Keys will now return to this surface in the week leading up to Wimbledon.
A former US Open finalist, Keys has also made the semifinal at both, the Australian Open and French Open. However, at Wimbledon, her best showing has been a quarterfinal appearance and even that came all the way back in 2015. She hasn’t passed round four at Wimbledon since.
Keys will hope she can turn things around on grass this time around starting with a solid performance here against a player who has been a bit of a mixed bag on grass for the year.

Before coming into the grass court swing, Fruhvirtova had gone through a horror slump on clay having lost four matches in a row. In fact, since surprising the world with a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open, Fruhvirtova hasn’t won more than a match in a tournament.
That was till she made the quarterfinal at the Birmingham Open, her first tournament on grass for the year.
She followed that up with an easy qualifying win over Ella McDonald in the first round before falling to Xiyu Wang in the second. Fortunately for Fruhvirtova she has still made it through after the pullout of a couple of players from the tournament.
Fruhvirtova will now have a tough ask against Keys but the good news for her is the lack of tennis her opponent has played on grass in some time. That could count for something.

While Keys is 3/10 to win this, we could be in for a surprise I think. A games handicap looks to be a good option here.
