Jodie Burrage v Lauren Davis Head to Head

Lauren Davis leads Jodie Burrage 1-0 in their WTA meetings. She won that match in the first round of the 2021 Wimbledon in straight sets.

Jodie Burrage will play in her third straight tournament in the main draw, which is the first time it’s happened to the 24-year-old.

She had to rely on a slice of good fortune with a number of top players withdrawing, and Burrage entered the Eastbourne main draw as a lucky loser. She lost in the second round of qualifying to Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in straight sets.

Burrage was running low on energy after playing a near three-hour thriller against Kamilla Rakhimova less than 24 hours earlier, in which she saved a match point en route to 6-7  7-5 7-6.

Burrage, who is ranked 128th in the world, reached her first WTA final as recently as a week ago where she and Katie Boulter rewrote history in the first all-British WTA final since 1977 at the Nottingham Open.

The 24-year-old lost out to Harriet Dart in Birmingham in a tempestuous affair, so she’ll be looking to return to winning touch with Wimbledon just around the corner.

Davis Pinches Two Tiebreaks to Qualify

Lauren Davis, a former quarterfinalist in Eastbourne, needed to qualify for the tournament this time, despite coming to the event ranked 44th in the world rankings.

There has been a host of top players who signed up for the tournament, which raised the cut-off entry for the 32-woman field.

Davis has since managed to work her socks off to pick up her first wins on grass. Last week, Davis lost in the opening round in Birmingham to fellow American Caty McNally in straight sets.

But the 29-year-old relied on her experience to get the better of Diane Parry 3-6 6-1 6-2 in the Eastbourne qualifiers. Then she played for two and a half hours to defeat World No. 113 Tereza Martincova 7-6 7-6.

Davis put Martincova under pressure throughout the whole match, fashioning as many as 18 break points. Both players broke each other four times. But on the balance of play, the American deserved the win, dominating the first-set tiebreak 7-2, and then saved three set points in the second set to win it 9-7.

Burrage v Davis Prediction and Tip

In nine matches played on grass this month, Burrage has won at least a set in seven matches. She’s the underdog here and we’ve seen this story far too many times where a lucky loser enters the main draw and beats a qualifier. Based on recent form, the Briton is a good pick to take a set.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Burrage to win a set – Yes: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
