Gracheva Breezes Past Romanian

Gracheva’s one previous grass court match this season had been a straight sets defeat at the hands of Donna Vekic in Berlin last week.

She, would, therefore, have been grateful for her comfortable victory over the Romanian, world number 133, Jaqueline Cristian in the first round.

Gracheva raced into a five love seed in the first set, courtesy of two service breaks,.

Cristian did recover one of the breaks, but then promptly lose her own serve again, allowing Gracheva to claim the first set.

It was more of the same in the second set, Gracheva going two breaks up, the difference being this time that Cristian was unable to claw either back. Gracheva went on to wrap up proceedings with the minimum of fuss.

Errani Passes Belgian Test

Errani had also lost her one previous match on grass this season, although in her case it was on the Challenger tour in Italy.

She may not have had a great deal of confidence ahead of her first round match with Maryna Zanevska of Belgium, but, in the event, the Italian passed the test with flying colours.

Although Errani was the first to face break points, not only did she save them both, but she broke Zanevska the next game, and then broke her once more to wrap up the first set.

The Belgian seemed to have turned a corner when she claimed the first three games of the second set, including two breaks. That, though, proved to be a false dawn as far as she was concerned, as Errani reeled off six games on the spin to claim the set, and the match.

Gracheva v Errani Prediction and Tip

Both had ultimately comfortable first round victories.

However, Gracheva is the seed, and considerably younger, so recovery will presumably be easier for her, and she will be confident she can reach the quarter-finals.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Gracheva to win: 5/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 22.5 games in the match: 5/4
