Harris Rides 3-Match Winning Streak

Lloyd Harris had to play the qualifiers to make his way into the main draw but he handled it really well. They weren’t easy matches because the South African hasn’t played that much this year so he’s still finding his best tennis. Both matches went to three sets but he managed to win both.

The first round paired him up with Bernabe Zapata Miralles, a player who certainly isn’t playing that well on grass as he prefers clay. It was a straight-sets win indicating that Harris is slowly finding his best. He’s a player with a superb serve and a good forehand.

For the most part that’s it but he really doesn’t need anything else. The most important thing for him is to serve well because that’s his win condition.

As long as he serves well and keeps the rallies short he’ll be in play to win the match. He’s 16-11 on the year so when he did play, Harris mostly did well.

Safiullin Wins First Tour Match on Grass

Roman Safiullin never won a grass match on the ATP Tour before his win in Mallorca. The Russian has a career record on grass of 7-4 but only his recent one over Shelbayh was on the ATP Tour. The Russian also needed to play the qualifiers in order to make the main draw but it wasn’t a huge problem for him.

Similar to his opponent, Safiulin has a heavy game with good serves and somewhat more stable groundstrokes. I wouldn’t say his forehand is better than that of Harris as a single shot but overall his groundstrokes look more reliable on average.

This year has been a really good one for him overall with 25 wins and only 5 losses. Grass was solid for him in the past so expect a good effort here.

I do think he can win the match but he will need to play a bit better than he did in the previous round.

Harris v Safiullin Prediction and Tip

This one is tough to call because either player can realistically win. Safiullin is the minor favourite though I would back the over if anything.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
