Harris Sends Safiullin Crashing

Having not played a lot of tennis this season and after having fallen off the rankings charts as a result, Harris was forced to feature in the qualifiers to make it through to the main draw here.

Harris did just that with successive three-set wins before overcoming Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the opening round.

Against Rome Safiullin, however, Harris was a second-favourite having entered the match at 1/1 odds to win. Harris overturned the odds, served like a champion as he saved four break-points and did just enough on his opponent’s serve to make it to the second round.

The first set saw Harris face all those four break-points in the sixth game before taking it into a tie-breaker where he overturned a 1-4 deficit to win 7-5.

Harris then found a way to break the Safiullin serve in the sixth game and that was all he needed to seal the deal.

Kotov Stuns Fokina

He needed two hours alright, but Kotov managed to overturn the odds against him when he took to court in his second round encounter with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Fokina, who was 3/10 to ease past Kotov looked like he was living up to the odds when he grabbed the opening set with two breaks of serves but a sudden turnaround in the second set changed the script.

Kotov went 3-1 up in the second set, lost his serve in the seventh game and then broke again to push the match into the third set. All that Kotov needed was to break early and while he did have to save two more break-points in the set, he did that well and clinched the tie 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The Russian had earlier lost to Tu Li in the qualifiers and then defeated the same opponent in the first round after making it through as a lucky loser.

Can he now make it to a rare quarterfinal appearance?

Harris v Kotov Prediction and Tip

Harris is 9/20 to win this but for us there’s not much to choose between these two and we could see a gritty battle that could go to the third.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
