Sabalenka Hoping to Better Her Semifinal Showing at Wimbledon

Sabalenka finally fulfilled her long-standing potential earlier this year at the Australian Open where she went on to lift the singles title for the first time in her career.

Since then she has come close to challenging Iga Swiatek as the number one player in the world but the Pole has managed to maintain that distance between her and Sabalenka.

The Belarusian number one wasn’t allowed to participate in this tournament last year, so she will have a few things to prove this season. Unfortunately for her, Sabalenka does not come into the tournament with a great grass court result in a while.

That’s because she was ousted in the first round at Berlin last year following which she missed Wimbledon. And that was followed by her first – and only – grass court competition this season that came in Berlin last week.

Sabalenka overcame Vera Zvonareva in her opener there before falling in straight sets to Veronika Kudermetova in the second. Now make no mistake, Kudermetova is a solid player, a top-10 material, so it wasn’t like Sabalenka fell away to a random player out of the blue.

That being said, Sabalenka isn’t at her best on grass either and that does give opponents at a later stage an opening. For starters here, it shouldn’t be a huge problem for her.

Udvardy Struggling in 2023

It’s not been much of a season to remember for Udvardy who has barely won any matches even on the ITF circuit.

Barring a final appearance at the La Bisbal ITF competition earlier this month, Udvardy has won just five matches in the entire season and only one of them came at the highest level. On grass, things are even worse for the Udvarady whose career-best ranking is 76th.

She has won just one main draw match – it came at Wimbledon itself – but other than that grass doesn’t seem to be much of a favourite for the Hungarian player.

Udvardy had earlier featured at the Eastbourne International last week but crashed out in the first round of qualifier, implying it’s another of a mismatch here.

Sabalenka v Udvardy Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka shouldn’t much of a worry in this one and a straight-set rout looks to be the most likely result.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sabalenka to win in straight sets: 1/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 17.5 games in the match: 4/5
