Swiatek Hoping to Improve Wimbledon Record

A four-time Grand Slam winner already, Swiatek will enter Wimbledon with a French Open title under her belt only weeks before. However, she would also know there’s not too much correlation between the two tournaments as far as results go and she will need to turn things around at Wimbledon drastically.

Here’s a player who has been number one for a while now – 65 weeks in total at the time of writing – and in all probabilities she will climb to ninth on the all-time ladder of weeks as number one.

Three of Swiatek’s Grand Slam titles have come at the French Open and another one at the US Open while the Polish player has also made it to the semifinal of the Australian Open.

Despite all of this, Swiatek has just a fourth round to show for her efforts at Wimbledon. That came in 2021 and she followed that up with a third round defeat in 2022. She will want to change that come the 2023 Wimbledon.

Swiatek does have the game to challenge the best even on grass. All that she needs is a bit of a rhythm-inducing run that can take her deep into the second week.

Zhu Coming off Birmingham Semifinal

As far as first round matches go, this is probably the most difficult match-up for the world number one when one considers rankings alone. Because Zhu is ranked 33rd in the world, just outside of the top 32 seeded players in the tournament.

And you add that to how Zhu went about her business at the Birmingham Open on grass a week ago, you know that things might not be as easy for Swiatek as the odds suggest.

Zhu was a semifinalist at the tournament, with wins over Magda Linette, Rebeca Marino and Katie Boulter punctuating her performance. It was Barbora Krejcikova who ended her stay in the competition.

The big question is if Zhu can dish out a similar showing in her opener where the pressure would probably be more on Swiatek than the Chinese player. She will have a chance to showcase her fighting capabilities here.

Swiatek v Zhu Prediction and Tip

While Swiatek is a 1/25 favourite, we think there could be a few more games than the 17.5 games on offer as a market in this match.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 7.5 games in the first set: 4/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 17.5 games in the match: 5/6
