Final Wimbledon for Raonic?

Milos Raonic is doing a farewell Tour as the Canadian wanted to say goodbye to tennis on his own terms. It’s been a painful journey towards this moment but it’s worth it because he never got a chance to properly bid his farewell to the sport that gave him a lot.

He hasn’t played in two years until this year with his first match happening at the Den Bosch event. He actually won that match beating Miormi Kecmanovic in two sets. His next match was against Jordan Thompson and it was a close one that the Australian ultimately win.

He didn’t play any more matches leading up to Wimbledon even though he was scheduled. It’s clear that his body isn’t what it used to be so this match could potentially be his final one. Expect him to try and do well.

The opponent is a fair player though one that Raonic can beat. The serve will obviously be crucial but it will be close either way.

Novak Faces Tough Test

Dennis Novak got a chance to play prime Raonic at Wimbledon and he did fairly well taking one set in that match. This version of Raonic is far removed from that level so his chances should certainly be a bit higher. He’s not favoured but he is not considered a major underdog either.

Getting to the main draw required beating three players in the qualifiers and he did just that. Novak dropped only one set en route to the main draw which tells you that he’s playing pretty well on the surface.

I do expect a good effort from him because he can hurt Raonic. His 27-12 record on the surface speaks to his prowess on the surface and the 21-12 record this year further indicates that he’s been playing rather well this year. Expect the match to be close but Novak to apply heavy pressure on Raonic from the start.

I could actually see him winning it as well.

Raonic v Novak Prediction and Tip

So this is a very close one. Somehow it seems likely that Raonic produces a win by simply being unbreakable but I don’t see him winning comfortably. We could see over three sets here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 3.5 sets in the match: 1/2
