Petra Kvitova v Donna Vekic Head to Head
The head to head record between the two players is currently tied at 1-1. They last met in the St. Petersburg Open earlier this year, where Vekic stunned Kvitova in the quarterfinal with 6-4, 6-1.
Kvitova Looking to Reach the Top
Kvitova started the year as World No. 8 but after a superb performance, she has moved up to the second place. She was the runner-up in the Australian Open and WTA Dubai, losing respectively to Naomi Osaka and Belinda Bencic.
She also won the title in Sydney that helped her cement her position in the top five. At the same time, her time on the tour hasn’t been without its downs. In Indian Wells, she lost to Venus Williams in the opener while in Brisbane at the start of the season, she was defeated by Anett Kontaveit in the second round.
The Czech’s return to the WTA tour following her recovery from the knife attack has been inspirational. She won five titles in 2018, including the Madrid Open and Birmingham Classic. With 17 wins and just five losses this year, it will be a challenge for any opponent to defeat Kvitova.
Vekic Hoping to Join the Young Fray
The last couple of months have been dominated by youngsters and Vekic is certainly hoping to become a permanent member of that gang. The interesting part here is that she is getting closer and closer by the day to make her presence known on the tour.
She reached the semifinal in Brisbane earlier this year following which, she incurred an early loss in the Australian Open. Vekic then participated in the St. Petersburg Open where she was the runner-up, losing to Kiki Bertens in the final. Later in the month, she was a semifinalist in the Mexican Open too.
However, in Indian Wells, the Croat incurred a shocking defeat to Ysaline Bonaventure in the opener.

Four of the five losses that Kvitova has incurred this season have been at the hands of players in their early twenties. Combining that with the recent defeat she had at the hands of Vekic, this will be a tricky encounter for Kvitova. She will start as the favourite although, the challenge for her will be to start strong and maintain their momentum throughout the match.
