Andreescu, Taking it Slow

Bianca Andreescu of Canada has featured in just six tournaments since the end of March. With just four wins in that period, there are more questions than answers about her form.

That timeline also includes some surprising losses against the likes of Rebeka Masarova (Bad Homburg, round two), Viktoria Hruncakova (Den Bosch, round two), and Lesia Tsurenko (French Open, round three).

Andreescu’s record for the year stands at 13-13, with many of those wins coming in WTA Hua Hin (semifinal) and the round of 16 in Miami. Interestingly, in both those events, she retired mid-match.

Now ranked World No. 50, Bianca is clearly struggling with form and, possibly, fitness. Amidst that, can she deliver a good run in London, where historically, she has never made it past round two? To make her case, she is brilliant on hard courts while last year, she was a runner-up in Bad Homburg.

Bondar Out of Her Element

Anna Bondar of Hungary is heading into Wimbledon 2023 with a professional career record of 0-4 on grass. With no grass build-up in recent weeks, her expectations of positive results must be admittedly low.

The 26-year-old, now ranked World No. 110, is on a four-match losing streak spanning across French Open, Valencia Challenger, Paris Challenger, and WTA Rome. The defeats have been of mixed variety; Bondar fell at the hands of Mirjam Bjorklund, Irina-Camelia Begu, Katherine Sebov, and Qinwen Zheng.

Before this, too, Anna was battling a serious rut. Her record on hard courts is at 3-8, while her overall tally is 7-15.

Once a former #50, Bondar has fallen on tough times. Her season-best result was reaching round three in Rome as a qualifier.

Andreescu v Bondar Prediction and Tip

Given Bondar’s lack of grass wins, Andreescu should be confident of a good start here. In all essence, this match is hers to lose.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Andreescu to win: 3/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 1/1
