Krejcikova Brushes Watson Aside

Coming off a finals berth at the Birmingham Open a week or so ago, Krejcikova looked to have taken that form into the start of this tournament too.

Sure she was facing an opponent who has not had too much go her way at the highest level in recent times but given her home support things could have gone against Krejcikova.

And for a moment it did look like Watson, spurred on by the patient crowd, could make things difficult for Krejcikova in the second set when she held on to her serve with great aplomb.

Fortunately for Krejcikova, she had her wits about her, and an hour and 35 minutes later, carved out a 6-2, 7-5 win over Watson. The former world number two faced just a couple of moments of anxiety in the match, but saved both those break-points while overcoming Watson’s serve on three occasions.

She will look to make it back to back wins at Wimbledon for the third season running.

Andreeva Continues Her Run Towards the Top 100

Coming into the qualifiers of this tournament, Andreeva was ranked 102nd in the world having touched the 101st rank as her career best.

The moment she had gone on to win three successive matches to make the main draw here at Wimbledon, Andreeva had made it through to the top 100 for the first time in her career but she has now gone one better.

The Russian, who had earlier this season made the third round at the French Open, overcame Xiyu Wang in three sets on her main draw debut here to improve her ranking even further.

In a match lasting nearly two and a half hours, Andreeva edged Wang 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in a match that had just one break of serve in each of the three sets. In fact Andreeva did rather well to stave off nine of the 10 break-points she faced and therein lay the difference between the two players.

Can she now overturn the might of Krejcikova?

Krejcikova v Andreeva Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova starts a 3/10 favourite and that’s giving the talented Andreeva the respect she deserves – despite the huge difference between their rankings. We will go with Krejcikova to win this but not before Andreeva has put up a show.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Krejcikova to win: 3/10
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 10/11
