Sabalenka Routs Alexandrova

Ekaterina Alexandrova wasn’t quite the favourite going up against the world number two but at the same she wasn’t expected to be a pushover when she faced Sabalenka in their fourth round.

For some time in the first time, she gave a glimpse of a fight as well but once Sabalenka had gotten the better of her serve, there was no looking back for the Belarusian player.

She went on a eight-game winning rampage, clinching the encounter 6-4, 6-0 in an hour and 13 minutes to advance to the last eight stage.

Sabalenka, who had beaten Panna Udvardy, Varvara Gracheva and Anna Blinkova before this, faced her first proper challenge in which one thought she could face some difficulties. In the first seven games of the match there were no break-points for either player and even when Sabalenka finally earned a couple in the eighth she was unable to win it.

At 4-4 in the opening set, she turned things around drastically. So much so that Sabalenka didn’t lose a single game from that point onward, breaking her opponent four times in succession.

Can she now avenge her defeat on grass to Keys?

Keys Comes Back from the Death against Andreeva

It looked like it was all over for Madison Keys when she fell a set down and was 4-2 behind in the second against her 102nd-ranked opponent Mirra Andreeva but the world number 18 is made of sterner stuff.

A break of serve in the seventh game of the second set brought Keys back into the encounter and while neither player got a break-point again in that set, she carved out an easy win in the tie-breaker that followed to level things out.

In the deciding set, Keys went up a break in the very second game and was 3-0 up soon. And then in the eighth game of the set, she forced the pressure further on to Andreeva, breaking her for the second time to complete a 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory.

Keys had last made it to the quarterfinals here in 2015 and has needed to overcome Sonay Kartal, Viktoriya Golubic and Marta Kostyuk in her previous matches to come through to round four here.

Can she make it to her sixth Grand Slam semifinal after having done that twice at the Australian Open, once at the French Open and US Open respectively and having also entered the final at the US Open before this?

Sabalenka v Keys Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka starts off as a 1/2 favourite but Keys will know she has had the better of her opponent on grass. Those were different days though and it could lead to an interesting tussle that reaches the third set.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sabalenka to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
