.With the Hungarian Open being played at the same time, the field in Palermo is not the strongest it could be, which is why a player ranked 177th in the world like Abduraimova has earned her place in the main draw without qualifying, or needing a wildcard.

She is much more often to be found on the ITF tour, where she has appeared in 23 finals – most recently in Pune in January – although the vast majority of them have been in hard court events.

However, when it comes to the main tour she has a much more modest record, and, the best she has managed in a Grand Slam is to reach the third round of qualifying at the US Open, and that was ten years ago.

In fact, this will be her first main draw appearance this year.

Beaten in the first round of qualifying for Wimbledon this time round, she has since played in two clay court ITF tournaments, reaching the second round of one, but exiting at the first round stage in Sweden.

Prozorova is even less well-known than her opponent.

She too primarily plays on the ITF tour, although she has not enjoyed the same degree of success, reaching six finals in a ten month period between December 2021 and October 2022, winning two of them, both on clay.

However, earlier this year she did make her main tour debut as a qualifier in Rabat.

Although she subsequently lost to the German veteran Tatjana Maria, she did have the satisfaction of taking het to three sets.

Now she has earned herself another main draw shot by winning her two qualifying matches in Palermo, first beating Angelica Moratelli of Italy in straight sets, and then Sofya Lansere in three.

Abduraimova v Prozorova Prediction and Tip

Neither player has a great pedigree in the sport, so this is a hard match to predict.

Based on experience and comparative world ranking alone, though, Abduraimova will begin the favourite.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Abduraimova to win: 7/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/4
