Navarro Reached Challenger Final Last Week

Like compatriot Jessica Pegula, Navarro does not have to work for a living.

She is the granddaughter of a billionaire, whilst her father earned plenty of money in his own career as an American football player and coach.

That means that she can enjoy her tennis, without the financial pressures some other players face.

And she has begun to reap results, reaching a career high ranking earlier this month, after reaching her first WTA semi-final in Bad Homburg.

She also won an ITF title on grass in Ilkley, although her Wimbledon attempt was ended in the first round by Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Since then she has competed in a Challenger event in Bastad, Sweden, where she was the top seed, reaching the final before losing in three sets to Olga Danilovic.

Dutch Qualifier Vedder

Vedder plays primarily on the ITF tour where she has won three singles and 19 doubles titles, on a mixture of clay and hard courts.

The biggest win of her career occurred last year in doubles when, partnered by Andrea Gamiz, she won a doubles title in Rome.

Later that same year the pair were runners up in a WTA 125k tournament, again on Italian soil, this time in Bari.

This is a very rare foray for her into a main tour event, but she has demonstrated yet again that she has a liking for playing in Italy, by coming through two rounds of qualifying in Palermo.

First she beat Zara Darken of Kazakhstan, and then Dalila Spiteri of Italy, both in straight sets.

Navarro v Vedder Prediction and Tip

Whilst just getting this far is an achievement in itself for Vedder, it would be a major upset if she were to beat Navarro, who is playing with confidence having just reached a career high ranking.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Navarro to win: 2/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
