Lestienne Struggling for Form

Ever since reaching the semifinals in Auckland in January, Constant Lestienne has seen a dip in form and the 31-year-old Frenchman heads into the final grass court tournament of the season with 5-13 tour-level record in 2023.

Lestienne has an overall season record of 9-17 and he is 3-5 on grass, with two of those wins coming in the Surbiton Challenger where he was a quarterfinalist this year.

At the tour level, Lestienne’s only grass court win came in the first round in Mallorca. Most recently, he went down to Liam Broady in the opening round at Wimbledon.

Lestienne had broken into the top 50 and reached a career-high of no. 48 following that run in Auckland, but a string of poor results has seen him fall to his current ranking of no. 86.

He doesn’t have a lot of experience on grass, with his best being a run to the semifinals in Ilkley Challenger last year. So it will be interesting to see how he fares in Newport.

The Aussie, who fell in the qualifying rounds in Wimbledon, is 24-17 from all his matches this year. He has either featured in the Challenger tournaments or played in the qualifying rounds of tournaments.

Duckworth featured in three hard court finals at the Challenger level this year, finishing runner-up in all three of them.

Additionally he was a quarterfinalist in two other Challenger tournaments this year.

Can he make a winning start in Newport?
