Vukic’s Grass Struggles

Aleksandar Vukic has the type of tennis that makes you surprised when you see that he doesn’t actually play that well on grass. He has a career record of 9-8 which is fair but his performances this year leave a lot to be desired at 4-5.

He’s played plenty of tennis though so that should boost him against his compatriot who has a slightly better record on the surface. Vukic is tall and plays very flat with some pretty solid baseline capabilities. His serve is s major weapon though it can be more precision than power at times.

It’s been a very good year for him so far with 38 wins and 21 losses and that makes the grass performance even more glaring. He’s in the top 100, he’s playing well but still somewhat can’t figure out the surface.

The movement isn’t the best obviously but he’s still heavily favoured against a player who is far away from any kind of Top 100 ranking.

Li Qualifies For Main Draw

Li had to play the qualifiers in order to get into the main draw and he was able to get it done by beating two players. One of those was a close match while the other wasn’t which is about what you can expect from the Australian who goes up an down.

For the most part, he’s a really solid player but not ranked anywhere near the top 100 because his level is not consistent enough. It’s bene an okay year so far with an 18-17 record. This will be a rare main-draw appearance for him as he generally plays on the Challenger Tour.

Li has a 14-8 record on grass overall which is pretty solid, slightly better than his opponent but he’s not on the same level. I highly doubt that he will be able to challenge Vukic but he never played him so perhaps he can surprise him.

Vukic certainly doesn’t look impressive on grass so there might be chances. Newport plays rather fast so breaks are not that common. Generally.

Vukic v Li Prediction and Tip

Vukic is the big favourite and while his grass level hasn’t been impressive he should have enough to take down his compatriot.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Vukic to win in straight sets: 4/5
