Dominic Thiem v Hamad Medjedovic Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and that came on the Challenger circuit earlier this year. It was Medjedovic who had won that in straight sets.

Thiem Eases Past Muller

Alexandre Muller did put up a bit of a fight in the second set of his opening round match against Thiem but in the end, the former US Open champion came away a winner in straight sets.

Thiem won 6-1, 7-6 (4) to make the second round, with the match lasting an hour and 34 minutes.

The difference between the two players proved to be Thiem’s better serving in the opening set which helped him hold on to his serve every single time. In return, he broke Muller twice and while the world number 76 returned to serve better in the second set, his inability get past Thiem’s serve meant the second set went into a tie-breaker.

The Austrian took an early 3-0 lead and any sort of a fightback from that point onward proved to be futile for Muller.

Can Thiem show something similar in his game come the second round?

Medjedovic Scrapes Through in Opener

In an opening round encounter that lasted two hours and 21 minutes, Medjedovic was forced to come back from a set behind before stunning the fifth seeded Zhizhen Zhang.

Having qualified for the event with two straight-set wins having started out a 1/3 favourite at both, Medjedovic looked to be in early trouble when he squandered a 3-1 lead in the first set and was broken twice.

The Serb came back strongly in the second, not allowing a serving slip-up in the third game there to bother him too much as he got the better of Zhang’s serve on three occasions there.

The decider proved to be keener tussle than the previous sets as both held on to their serves till the sixth game. In the seventh, Medjedovic got the opening he wanted, breaking Zhang off the third break-point of that game before wrapping up the contest soon after.

Medjedovic will know he has beaten Thiem recently and on the same surface. The confidence will be there.

Thiem v Medjedovic Prediction and Tip

While Thiem starts off a 4/6 favourite, it’s hard to discount Medjedovic in this one. In fact we believe there’s not much to choose between these two and as a result those odds of 6/5 for the Serb’s win could come handy.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Medjedovic to win a set: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 4/5
