Zverev had played Alex Molcan last week at the Bastad Open and had scraped through to win by clinching the decider 7-5. This time around there were no such shenanigans with the German coming through 6-0, 6-3 in a match lasting a mere 63 minutes.
Such was the dominance of Zverev he faced no break-points in the encounter while getting past his opponent’s serve on four occasions in the process.
With an 82% first serve stat, he also ended up winning nearly 75% of all his service points – which is a big tick for Zverev who has had his serving issues in the past – as he took a step closer to making it to his career-best showing at this tournament.
This follows Zverev’s quarterfinal appearance in Bastad last week as he looks to build on his clay-court win-loss record of 16-7 this season.

Marterer Eases Past Molleker
Marterer’s career-high ranking of 45th came in 2018 but since then he has seen one setback after another. So much so that he fell to 379th in 2020 and has taken his time to break back into the top 150.
His next goal would be to get back into the top 100 as he looks to start qualifying directly for Grand Slams and he has taken one step in the right direction for it by winning another main draw match for the season.
Having made the third round at Wimbledon after starting out as a qualifier, Marterer eased past Rudolf Molleker in the first round here to seal his second round berth. And while Molleker did put up a fight in the first round, there was no looking back for Marterer once he had snatched the set in a tie-breaker.
This follows a five-match winning streak for Marterer who had won the Amersfoort Challenger competition last week.
Taking down Zverev will be a bridge too far but we can expect a bit of a fight here.
