World no. 57 Laslo Djere knocked out sixth seed Tomás Martín Etcheverry in the first round in Hamburg.
A semifinalist in 2021, Djere has moved past the first round just the second time in his fourth appearance in the tournament.
Against Etcheverry on Tuesday, Djere could not close out the first set after building a 5-3 lead, but he still managed to win the set in the tiebreak. In the second set, he got the solitary break in the sixth game to win the one hour and 48 minute match 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
Djere will be looking to reach a fourth ATP quarterfinal this year. He had previously made it to the last eight in Auckland, Santiago and Banja Luka. In addition, the Serb also played a Challenger final, finishing runner-up in the Cagliari Challenger. Can he make it to another quarterfinal this year?

Pella Edges Past Monteiro
Guido Pella edged past lucky loser Thiago Monteiro in a three-set first round contest on Monday.
The Argentine, who won consecutive matches for the first time in the season at Wimbledon, where he lost in the third round, made it to the second round for the eighth time this year.
Pella, who won 81% points on his first serve, saved 9 of 10 break pints and converted 2 of 6 to win the two hour and 24 minute contest 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Pella will be looking to reach a first quarterfinal of the year. It will also be the 33-year-old’s first last eight appearance since 2020.
Djere v Pella Prediction and Tip
Djere has displayed better form this year, and he has been particularly good on clay. Expect the Serb to win and advance to the quarterfinals.
