Diane Parry v Danka Kovinic Preview

Head-to-Head: This will be their first meeting.

Diane Parry won one match this week in Lausanne and it wasn’t an easy one. She needed three sets to win the match against compatriot Fiona Ferro 7-5 2-6 6-2.

Parry, like Ferro, plays her best tennis on clay and she’s 17-11 this season on it.

Her tennis is a pretty balanced one, nothing particularly sticks out which makes her tough to beat. Kovinic will be up for the task as the Montenegrin is a noted clay specialist. She plays a very aggressive style and hits rather cleanly making her a tricky out. All of that was on display in round one against Jenny Duerst as Kovinic won 6-0 6-2.

Neither player is playing at a particularly high level so far. Kovinic seems like the more talented one so I’ll back her to win though it could go either way. It’s their first meeting.

Parry v Kovinic Tip

Kovinic to win: 4/6

Dalila Jakupovic v Anna Bogdan Preview

Head-to-Head: They played twice so far and each has one win. The most recent one in 2019 was won by Jakupovic.

Dalila Jakupovic is a far better player than her ranking (267) would make you believe. The Slovenian has traditionally played her best tennis on clay and she’s been pretty fair this year as well (19-17). Most of her matches came on the ITF Tour this year but that didn’t matter in the first round; 7-6(11) 6-2 against Valentini Grammatikopoulou.

Anna Bogdan is a fairly known veteran player who has been on Tour for a very long time. Her best surface is clay which her record of 9-4 this year proves and she’s been in spectacular form lately. She won the Iasi event last week and started off this event with a 2-6 6-2 6-3 win over Simona Waltert.

It’s a really tough one to predict because it could go either way. Jakupovic is capable of beating anyone on her day but the form of Bogdan is very hard to ignore. I think Bogdan likely wins though an over might be a solid option as well.

Jakupovic v Bogdan Tip

Over 19,5 games: 5/6

Emma Navarro v Clara Burel Preview

Head-to-Head: They played once before and Navarro won it (Collina 2022).

Emma Navarro needs no introduction by now as the American has proven herself to be a very strong player on clay. A 33-9 record this year makes her a favourite against anyone in the draw and she’s certainly that against Burel. Her first round went smoothly 6-0 6-0 against Leolia Jeanjean.

Clara Burel didn’t have a dominating win like that but she still impressed against Olga Danilovic 6-4 6-4. That’s a tough matchup and not easy tough Burel once again proved to be quite comfortable on the red dirt. Her record on the surface is 14-7.

While Burel has been quite impressive in her performances this week it pales in comparison to Navarro so the American is the pick.

Navarro v Burel Tip

Navarro to win the match: 3/6

Jil Teichmann v Alize Cornet Preview

Head-to-Head: They played once so far and Cornet won in 2018 in Lugano.

Jil Teichmann is one of the streakiest tennis players on Tour which means that she’s very tough to predict. Her 1st round one went well, a 6-2 6-2 over Erika Andreeva. Even so, the form hasn’t been the best an 8-8 record on clay and rather poor showings lately.

Alize Cornet is one of the most experienced tennis players on Tour, famously known as the giant killer because she troubles so many favoured players. She defeated Viktorija Golubic 3-6 6-3 6-1 in the first round breaking a bad streak lately.

Neither is playing in fantastic form right now but I do think this is a clear over. I can see both winning a set so that’s why the over.

Teichmann v Cornet Tip

Over 20,5 games in the match: 5/6
