Ninth seed Diane Parry eased past seventh seed Alize Cornet in an all French quarterfinal on Friday. The world no. 90 came back from 0-3 down to win six consecutive games and take the opening set.

She continued to dominate the match and won four more games in a row, before Cornet finally broke again to won a game after losing 10 in a row. But Parry didn’t allow the match slip from her grip and she broke a third time late in the set to win the one hour and 19 minute match 6-3, 6-2.

It was a second straight sets win in a row for the 20-year-old, who defeated Danka Kovinic 6-4, 7-5 in the round of 16. She had started her campaign with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 over compatriot Fiona Ferro.

Parry will meet a third french player in the semifinal. She is 25-22 across levels this year and 18-11 on clay. While she won her second WTA 125 title in Paris, and also reached the semifinal in Makarsaka in addition to two ITF semifinals, she will be playing in her first tour level semifinal of the season. Burel Advances as Bogdan Retires

World no. 84 Clara Burel inched closer to another Lausanne final as she advanced to the semifinals following the retirement of her opponent Ana Bogdan on Friday.

Burel had taken the first set 6-3 and was leading the second 1-0 when Bogdan, struggling with some issue, retired from the contest.

Burel, who had finished runner-up to Tamara Zidansek in 2021, has not reached another WTA final in her career. The Frenchwoman had beaten Olga Danilović 6-4, 6-4 in the first round and then she ousted fifth seed Emma Navarro 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 16.

The 22-year-old, who was also a semifinalist in Strasbourg, is 16-7 on clay across levels. Can she reach her second career final on Saturday?
