Fourth seed Alexander Zverev marched into the semifinals in Hamburg with a straight sets rout of Luca Van Assche.

Zverev is looking good to reach his first final on Saturday as he has made it to the final four in Hamburg without dropping a set. Zverev began with a 6-0, 6-3 thrashing of Alex Molcan in the first round and then he ousted fellow german Maximilian Marterer 6-3, 7-5 in round 2.

On Friday, the former world no. 2 served eight aces and won 82% points on his first serve during a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Van Assche.

After getting the solitary break of the opening set, Zverev was broken early in the second and found himself 0-3 and 1-4 down. But he fought back and won the last five games in a row to register a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Frenchman.

Fils Stuns Ruud

It has been an amazing season for 19-year-old Arthur Fils so far and it just got better on Friday, when the Frenchman toppled the top seed Casper Ruud with a dominating performance.

The world no. 71 bagelled the world no. 4 in the opening set and then got the solitary break in the final game of the second set to complete a 6-0, 6-4 victory.

Fils, who won 85% points on the first serve, was not broken by the Norwegian. He saved the only break point that he faced and converted 4 of 9 break points to oust the two time French Open runner-up and earn his first-ever top 10 win.

Fils will be featuring in his fourth semifinal of the year. He won his maiden title in Lyon  on clay and finished runner-up in Montpellier and Marseille, both on indoor courts.

He has not dropped a set this week, having beaten Daniel Elahi Galán 7-5, 7-5 in the first round and Dusan Lajovic by the same scoreline in round 2.

Fils had also reached his first two Challenger finals this year, winning one and finishing runner-up in the other. Can he upset another major finalist on Saturday and advance to the final?

Zverev v Fils Prediction and Tip

Fils has been in great touch, but despite his quarterfinal heroics, he won’t be the favourite against Zverev, who has won six clay court titles from nine finals on the surface. Zverev’s playing well too and he is expected to end the youngster’s promising run.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Zverev to win: 1/4
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
