Washington Open champion Coco Gauff began her Canadian Open campaign by defeating Britain’s Katie Boulter in straight sets in the second round on Wednesday.
The world no. 7, who beat Maria Sakkari for her second title of the year on Sunday, needed an hour and 13 minutes to rout the world no. 72, 6-2, 6-2 on Wednesday.
Dominating the contest from start to finish, the 19-year-old was broken just once in the first set, while she broke the Briton thrice in the first set and twice in the second to advance to the third round of the tournament for the third time time.
Gauff has made two appearances in the tournament before and on both the occasions she has finished as a quarterfinalist. If she wins on Thursday, she will be in the last eight for the third consecutive year.
A four-time tour level champion, Gauff is 32-12 overall this season and 20-5 on hard courts. In addition to winning the Citi Open on Sunday, she had won the Auckland Open title at the start of the season.
She is currently on a five-match win streak and will look to keep the streak going as she eyes an eighth quarterfinal spot of the season.

Vondrousova Holds Off Wozniacki
Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova defeated former world no. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets in the second round on Wednesday.
The Dane, who returned to the sport after 3 and a half years, had won her opening round match against Kimberly Birrell, but she couldn’t progress further as the world no. 10 toppled her in straight sets.
Vondrousova broke Wozniacki twice to take the first set and then raced to a 3-0 lead in the second after breaking the Danish player twice. But Wozniacki fought back and won four games in a row to keep her chances alive. However, a third break late in the set proved to be decisive for Vondrousova, who won the one hour and 47 minutes contest 6-2, 7-5.
With the win Vondrousova extended her winning streak to nine matches. Playing for the first time since her Wimbledon triumph, the Czech had beaten Mayar Sherif 6-4, 6-2 in the first round. Vondrousova, who is making her tournament debut this week, will aim to reach a fifth quarterfinal of the year with a win over Gauff on Thursday.
