Their only previous meeting came in an ITF competition on clay courts in 2017, with Pera winning that.

Pera on a Three-Match Losing Streak

Life on court seemed to be headed in the right direction for Pera when she followed up her quarterfinal appearance at the Strasbourg Open with a fourth round showing at the French Open.

Since then, however, Pera hasn’t won too much and lost a lot – 3-7 to be more precise. This includes a three-match losing coming into this tournament and as a result of that, the American has fallen to 53rd in the world.

This was after Pera had a career-high of 27th on the WTA charts just a little over a month ago.

Pera now enters a tournament in which she hasn’t made the second round and holds a 2-3 win-loss record. Can she turn things around for herself here, not just to get better in Cincinnati but also for the season.

Trevisan Makes it Through the Qualifiers

A clay-court specialist, Trevisan did have her run at the Miami Open to look back at for inspiration as she took to court for the qualifiers of her first hardcourt competition since March.

And while she was a favourite against Su-wei Hsieh in the first round of the qualifying, Trevisan went into her second qualifier Taylor Townsend at 7/5 odds to win it.

She was forced into a third set but Trevisan stunned Townsend to make it through to the main draw.

Trevisan will now be featuring in the Cincinnati for only the second time in her career, having lost in the first the only previous time she played here – i.e. last season. And other than her quarterfinal appearance in Miami and third round at Indian Wells earlier this year, Trevisan has won just two hardcourt matches in WTA 1000 tournaments before this.

Can she turn that record around against a player who has done better on clay than this surface?

Pera v Trevisan Prediction and Tip

Interestingly, it’s Trevisan who starts off a favourite here and that could be to do with the rhythm she’s earned through her wins in the qualifiers. Backing Pera to overturn her poor run in recent times here.
