Daniil Medvedev v Alexander Zverev Head to Head

There have been a whopping 15 previous meetings between these two players and Medvedev leads 9-6. Medvedev has also won in their last three meetings including two on his least favourite, clay.

This will be their first meeting in Cincinnati.

Medvedev Easy Winner over Musetti

For the second week running, Medvedev was drawn to play Lorenzo Musetti and this time around it turned out to be an even easier win for the world number three.

Having overcome Musetti 6-4, 6-4 at the Canadian Masters last week in the third round, Medvedev reached the third round this time around with a 6-3, 6-2 win over his Italian opponent – just as we had reckoned in our preview.

Medvedev, who did not begin his North American hardcourt swing too well with a quarterfinal defeat in Toronto, looked far more clinical this time around as he ended up needing just an hour and 19 minutes to make it through.

While Medvedev lost his serve in the very first game of the encounter, he quickly came back to break his opponent in the very next game before clinching another break in the eighth game.

In the second set, he had no difficulties in getting past Musetti, breaking him a couple of times and even missing three chances to do so in another game.

Medvedev will look to continue being this clinical when he faces Zverev too.

Zverev Runs Past Nishioka

Having struggled at the Canadian Masters last week but rather expectedly so given it was his first hardcourt competition in a while, Zverev looks to have found his rhythm rather well in Cincinnati.

The German did not spend too much time on court in sending Grigor Dimitrov out in the first round as he won 6-2, 6-2. And while Yoshihito Nishioka did pose a few questions at him in the second round, Zverev found a way past his Japanese opponent in straight sets as well.

Zverev won 7-5, 6-4 in a match lasting nearly two hours as he saved five of the six break-points he faced in the encounter.

In return he got past Nishioka’s serve three times but the slightly worrying stat for Zverev coming into this match is he missed nine opportunities to break his opponent.

Can he get more clinical against the world number three?

Medvedev v Zverev Prediction and Tip

While Zverev can be expected to get a lot better than he was last week where he fell to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, we still think Medvedev will get past him but not before some drama.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Medvedev to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
