2022 Cincinnati Masters runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas began this year’s campaign with a tough two-set win over up-and-coming star Ben Shelton in the second round.
The fourth seed had to battle it out for an hour and 44 minutes before getting the better of the world no. 40 in a pair of tiebreaks.
In what was a fantastic service display from both the players, neither player held a break point in the match. While Shelton won 84% points on his first serve, Tsitsipas won 93% points on the back of his first delivery.
The Greek player dominated both the tiebreaks to win the contest 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2).
Tsitsipas, who had a first-round bye, improved to 41-15 this season and to 11-5 in Cincinnati. He was a runner-up last year and a semifinalist the two previous years. Can he reach a fourth straight Western & Southern Open quarterfinal?

Hurkacz Takes Down the Defending Champion
World no. 20 Hubert Hurkacz rallied from a set down to defeat defending champion Borna Coric in the second round on Wednesday.
Hurkacz lost the first set despite getting an early break and taking a 1-4 lead. He, however, clawed his way back by winning the second set and then dominated the third to clinch the contest 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
The Pole struck 10 aces and 22 winners to knock out the 15th seed.
It was a second straight three sets win for the Polish player, who had beaten Thanasi Kokkinakis 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 7-6 (7-1) in the opening round.
With the win, Hurkacz improved his season numbers to 29-17. The 2023 Marseille Open champion will be looking to reach his fourth quarterfinal of the season and a first in Cincinnati.
