Veronika Kudermetova v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 Australian Open and Sorribes Tormo won that in three sets.

After back to back defeats including a shock one at the hands of Venus Williams, Kudermetova looked to be at the receiving end of the 27/10 underdog (with bet365) Nadia Podoroska in her opener in Cleveland as well.
The Russian lost her serve three times in the opening set to concede the lead to the clay court specialist Podoroska.
She came back strongly in the second set with a couple of breaks to level things out before repeating the dose in the decider as well to clinch a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win in an hour and 52 minutes.
Kudermetova was recently ranked ninth in the world but a spate of sub-par results have pulled her back a tad. She will look at her performance in Rosmalen in June for inspiration especially given she likes playing hardcourt tennis.

Sorribes Tormo Benefits from Siniakova Injury
Katerina Siniakova has had fitness concerns throughout the season and it turned out to be a second retirement of the year for her against Sorribes Tormo. Having come into the encounter on the back of four successive defeats, Siniakova bowed out of the competition when she retired from the match in the second set.
Not that Sorribes Tormo did not have the upper hand by then though.
She had already claimed the first set and was 4-0 up in the second when Siniakova was forced out of the encounter.
This follows Sorribes Tormo’ defeat in the qualifiers before which she made it to the main draw as a lucky loser. She was an 11/10 underdog (with bet365) to win this but aided with her opponent’s fitness concerns has been able to notch up her maiden hardcourt win of the season.
