Azarenka did not have the greatest of starts to the North American hardcourt swing as she fell in the first round of the Washington Open to Elina Svitolina.
She went on to win her opener against Magda Linette at the Canadian Open with ease but was forced to withdraw from her second round match against Sloane Stephens. Later Azarenka revealed she seemed to have aggravated a lingering injury before the start of the encounter.
The good news for Azarenka was she returned to feature in the Cincinnati Open and what made it even better was her cruising win over Barbora Krejcikova in her first round encounter.
Unfortunately for her, that’s about all what she did as she fell in the second round to Donna Vekic, raising questions whether she is fully fit coming into this US Open.

Ferro Trying to Make Her Way Back
As recently as in 2021, Ferro was ranked 39th in the world, her career best ranking. Since then a spate of injuries followed by poor form has left Ferro with a lot to do and she fell outside of the top 100 that year and then ended the 2022 season outside of the top 400 even.
Things have gradually begun to get better for Ferro as she has made a climb back into the top 200, entering this tournament on the back of a finals appearance in a WTA 125 event in Barranquilla.
Add that to the two titles that Ferro has won on the ITF circuit and there is that hope that the Frenchwoman could turn things around by the end of the season.
What makes things slightly tougher is her opener here is against a player who likes playing hardcourt tennis, having also made the final at the US Open as recently as 2020. Ferro, as a result, starts off a distant second favourite at 27/4 with bet365.

Azarenka will be a favourite but we don’t think those odds do justice to how Ferro has been performing. Could be a lot closer than that.
