Anna Kalinskaya v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

They played once so far, and Siniakova won that match. It happened a long time ago, in 2016.

First Match in Three Months for Kalinskaya

Anna Kalinskaya hasn’t played since May and the Rome Open due to an injury she sustained there. It was a heartbreaking one because it came at a time when she was playing really solid tennis. The Russian faces a tricky challenger in her first match back.

Siniakova is not a player you want to play after a long break, but she’ll have to. On hard courts, Siniakova is generally a good fit. She has a solid serve and solid baseline play, which her career stats back up. Her level on the surface this year was okay, as she holds an 8-9 score.

Overall, Kalinskaya is 15-12, which is okay. She missed a lot of time, so she will certainly be rusty in this one. A lack of matches is not easily overcome, and I do expect some struggles.

Having lost to Siniakova in their previous match doesn’t really help her case. Her best result in New York is the second round.

Siniakova Eyeing Good Start

Katerina Siniakova hopes to start her US Open on a good note. The Czech player hasn’t had the best of years and is hoping for some good wins. The score overall is 11-11 though she’s only 8-11 on hard courts.

She’s not a terrible fit on hard courts because she does tend to battle in most of her matches, although her consistency can be quite off. Her willingness to fight for every point is what makes her a tough matchup.

She managed to win at least one match in New York in her previous two appearances and that seems like this time around. Facing a player who was absent for three months is a bonus but she needs to approach it with caution.

Kalinskaya is capable of hitting with the best of them, so the key to winning will be to be consistent. She’s not quite known for that.

Kalinskaya v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

I do think that Siniakova is more likely to win because I find it hard to believe that Kalinskaya won’t feel the effects of not playing for three months. Back Siniakova.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Siniakova to win: 8/11 (with bet365)
