Radu Albot will be making his ninth appearance at the U.S. Open. He has lost in the opening round on seven of his previous eight appearances. The only time he went past the first round, it was in 2017, when he went on to reach the third round.
The Moldovan is 7-10 at the tour level and 27-27 overall this year. When it comes to hard courts, he has a 7-11 record across levels in 2023.
Albot’s best this year came in Delray Beach, where he defeated Tommy Paul en route the semifinals. Apart from that effort he has had three quarterfinal appearances at the Challenger level, but nothing else of note this season.
Most recently he was knocked out in the first round at Winston-Salem. He may have a tough time in going past the opening round once again this year.

Fitness Concerns for Draper
Fitness has been an issue for Jack Draper this season. First, the British left-hander missed out the entire grass season due to a shoulder injury and then on his return, he retired from the second round contest at Winston Salem, which was just his second tournament on return.
Draper, who had won the first round match against Nuno Borges with ease, had lost the first set in the tiebreak against Tallon Griekspoor when he decided to quit in the second round at Winston Salem last week.
He will be desperate to regain full fitness ahead of the U.S. Open, where he will make his second appearance. Last year, he made it past the first two rounds on his debut but lost to Karen Khachanov in the third round.
This year, he is expected to go past his first round. He was in decent form before sustaining the shoulder injury in May. The 21-year-old was a semifinalist in Adelaide-2 and had made it to the fourth round in Indian Wells.
He also reached the quarterfinals on clay in Lyon.
If he is fit, expect him to do well in the final major this season.

Draper has done well at the top level this season. He may be ranked lower than the Moldovan, he is expected to ease into the next round without a lot of trouble.
