Coco Gauff v Marie Bouzkova Head to Head
Bouzkova won their only meeting in Cincinnati last year, but that win came after Gauff retired in the second set.

Coco Gauff dropped just one game in her opening match at the Rome Open on Thursday as she demolished Yulia Putintseva 6-0, 6-1 to move into the third round.
The 19-year-old struck 6 aces, won 88% points on her first serve, did not face a single break point and converted 5 of 11 to trounce the Kazakh in 60 minutes.
This is Gauff’s third clay court tournament of the year and she has succeeded in winning her opener in all three of them But she couldn’t win two in a row in Stuttgart or Madrid and will hope to change that in Rome.
The world no. 5 also has a good record at the Italian Open. She was a semifinalist in 2021 and had made it to the round of 16 last year.
Thanks to Thursday’s win, Gauff improved her season record to 19-7. She had won her third WTA title in Auckland at the start of the season, was a semifinalist in Dubai and a quarterfinalist in Doha and Indian Wells.

Bouzkova Overcomes Slow Start to Oust McNally
No. 27 seed Marie Bouzkova overcame early jitters to beat American Caty McNally in the second round of the Rome Open on Thursday.
The Czech lost her first two services games as McNally raced to a 4-0 lead, but then Bouzkova completely turned the match on its head, by winning 10 games in a row.
McNally made things interesting by pulling back one of the two breaks late in the second set, but Bouzkova regrouped and finished off the match for a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
It has been a tough season for Bouzkova, who had come into the tournament with 5-10 record on the tour and 10-11 record across levels. The world no. 38 would be happy to have begun a second straight tournament with a win, but now the challenge for her will be to win consecutive main draw matches on the tour — something that she has not achieved this year.

Gauff is off to an excellent start in Rome; she has also been in much better form than the Czech this year. Expect her to oust Bouzkova and move into the fourth round.
