They have never met at the tour level, but Krajinovic won a lower level meeting between the two in 2012.

Mannarino Finds Going Tough on Clay

Adrian Mannarino has always found things difficult on clay and this year has been no different.

The 34-year-old Frenchman has played seven matches on clay, across levels, this season and has a 1-6 record. He is currently on a five-match losing streak, with his most recent defeat coming against Albert Ramos Vinolas in the round of 16 of the Bordeaux Challenger this week.

Manarino, who had a decent run last year, which included his second ATP title in Winston Salem, had done well on hard and indoor courts this season. He is 12-9 in the main draws but 13-15 across levels.

The lefty’s best this year were quarterfinal finishes in Dallas and Delray Beach and he made it to the round of 16 in Miami.

How far can he go in Geneva, where he will be making his fourth appearance? Clay doesn’t suit his style of play and another early exit may well be on the cards.

Krajinovic Struggling in 2023

Filip Krajinovic has played in 12 tournaments (including Challengers) this year and has made nine first round exits. It is a clear indication of his struggles in 2023.

But while he has gone 3-9 in the main draws at the tour level, he will take heart from the fact that he made it to the semifinal of the Prague-2 Challenger on clay in the first week of May. It may have come at a lower level event against lower ranked players, but it may just have been the boost that he needed in what was turning out to be a horror season for him.

Krajinovic is a five-time finalist on the tour, still searching for his maiden ATP title. One of those finals came last year in Queen’s when he went down to Matteo Berrettini.

He will be hoping to put all the disappointments behind him and start afresh in Geneva.

Mannarino v Krajinovic Prediction and Tip

Krajinovic has a far superior record on clay, he has also played in two clay court finals and has won 10 Challenger titles on clay. He also got into a bit of form in the Prague-2 Challenger. So even though he is the unseeded player playing against the eighth seed, he will be the favourite to advance.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Krajinovic to win: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 4/5
