Wolf In Fine Touch

J.J. Wolf has played very little tennis on clay courts, but he seems to be getting used to the surface this year.

The world no. 54 reached his first tour level quarterfinal on clay in Houston, made a first round exit from Madrid and then won two matches in Rome before falling to Alexander Zverev in the third round.

One of those wins in Rome came against the more accomplished Hubert Hurkacz.

Wolf has an overall record of 13-10 this year. He produced his best Grand Slam result at the Australian Open by reaching the fourth round. He was also a semifinalist at the Dallas Open.

The American still needs a bit of experience on clay, but a few decent results this year would have surely boosted his confidence.

Dellien Looking to Regain Early Season Form

Clay court specialist Hugo Dellien made it to his first ATP semifinal when he went from the qualifiers to the final four at the Cordoba Open. His run ended with a defeat to Sebastian Baez.

Dellien was also a quarterfinalist in Rio and he won his only title of the season at the Santiago Challenger by beating Thiago Seyboth Wild in the final.

In addition, he was also a semifinalist at the Concepcion Challenger as a result of which he is 16-8, across levels this season. He has played just one match outside clay and that was a at the Australian Open, where he went down in the first round.

In his most recent performances, the world no. 157 lost in the opening round in Rome and finished with a 1-1 record at the Oeiras Challenger.

Dellien will be playing in Geneva for the second time; he was a quarterfinalist in his first attempt in 2019. Can he make a good start?

Wolf v Dellien Prediction and Tip

Dellien has not played a lot of tennis since March, but he has a lot of experience playing on clay courts and 25 titles from 35 finals at the Challenger and Futures level is a testament to that.

Wolf on the other hand still needs some experience on clay, but his current form is slightly better than Dellien. Expect this to be a closely contested match, with Wolf edging through.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Wolf to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
