Giron Not Known for Clay Court Performances

Although Giron’s passage to the third round in Paris two years ago remains his best performance in a Grand Slam to date, that remains something of an outlier for the American, who is better known as a hard court player.

That was evidenced last year when he reached his first ATP final, losing to compatriot Brandon Nakashima in San Diego.

His best performance on clay this year came in Munich, where he reached the quarter-finals before losing to Botic van de Zandschulp.

Since then, he reached the second round in Madrid, but was a first round victim in Rome.

He did beat Alexander Bublik in the first round in Lyon, but compatriot Taylor Fritz then ended his interest in the tournament.

Grand Slam Debut for Medjedovic

Still only 19, Medjedovic is making his Grand Slam debut in Paris, but he has already hinted at what he might be capable of by winning three titles on the Challenger tour on clay in the past ten months.

Two of those successes came this year, in Hungary in March and Austria, earlier this month.

Nor is playing on the main tour a totally unfamiliar experience for him, having made his debut at the Belgrade Open back in 2021.

To get to this stage, the teenager has battled through three rounds of qualifying, each of his matches going to three sets.

First he beat Ivan Gakhov, and then Juan Manuel Cerundulo of Argentina.

He clinched his place against Giron by coming from behind to beat Jesper de Jong of the Netherlands, recovering from losing the first set without winning a single game.

Giron v Medjedovic Prediction and Tip

Although the teenager will be making his Grand Slam debut, he still starts favourite for this match. He is a natural clay court player, whereas Giron is much more at home on a hard court.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Medjedovic to win: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 38.5 games in the match: 5/6
