Emil Ruusuvouri v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first match between the 24 year old Finn, and the Frenchman who is five years older.

Fourth French Open Appearance for Ruusuvouri

This will be Ruusvuvouri’s fourth appearance at this tournament, but his second round exit last year is still the best he has managed so far at Roland Garros.

The Finn, who reached his first final at the Maharashtra Open in India in 2022 before losing to Joao Sousa of Portugal, had his best result of this season in Miami, when he became the first Finn to make the quarter-finals of a Masters.

The switch to clay has not proved particularly beneficial to the 24 year old so far this season.

He qualified in Monte Carlo but was then beaten in the first round, but he did better in Barcelona, beating first Alexander Bublik and Frances Tiafoe, before he was beaten by Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina.

Since then he has been knocked out in the second round in both Madrid and Rome.

Barrere’s Very Modest Paris Record

Barrere has a very modest record in his home Grand Slam, never having been beyond the second round here (although that is as far as he has advanced in any Grand Slam in his career).

Better known as a hard court player, he did win titles on clay during his days on the ITF tour, but his two Challenger finals on the surface both ended in defeat, most recently in Aix-en-Provence last year.

He had a mixed start to his clay court season, with a first round loss in Monte Carlo followed by two round defeats in Banja Luka and Madrid.

Another first round defeat followed in Aix-en-Provence this time round, but he would have taken encouragement from his performance in Rome, where he reached the third round, and beat Karen Khachanov in the process.

Earlier this week, he got to the second round in Lyon before losing to the American, Tommy Paul.

Ruusuvouri v Barrere Prediction and Tip

Both men have poor records in this event, so something has to give in this match.

However, based on form alone, the Finn is tipped to advance against a player who does not seem to find inspiration playing in front of his local crowd.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Ruusuvouri to win: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 37.5 games in the match: 5/6
