Madison Keys v Kaia Kanepi Head to Head

It’s 2-1 to Keys; they last met in the 2021 Indian Wells Open, where she won 6-0, 7-5. Kanepi’s sole win over her opponent came back in Madrid in 2015.

Keys in Decent Form

World No. 20 Madison Keys has taken things comparatively slow this season. That said, her record is at a respectable 15-7, and she does look well-positioned for a good run in Paris.

The former #7 spent the last few weeks competing in clay events. In Rome, she lost in the round of 16 to Anhelina Kalinina while in Charleston – which was a month before the Italian Open – she was a quarterfinalist.

Apart from this, Keys was among the final eight in Dubai and a prime performer in the United Cup – where she guided her nation to their maiden trophy in the competition by winning all of her five singles matches.

Madison also has a decent track record in the Paris Slam; she was a semifinalist in the 2018 edition and a quarterfinalist the year after. Last season, she was beaten in round four.

Kanepi in a Rut

As the senior most player in the top 100 right now, World No. 76 Kaia Kanepi continues to be an inspiration for many others. The 37-year-old is still going strong by competing regularly – but as some may expect, she hasn’t quite delivered wins.

She is 5-12 at the moment, coming fresh off a round two loss to Clara Burel in the Strasbourg International.

Similarly, in Rome and Madrid, the Estonian fell in the opening rounds to Marketa Vondrousova and Irene Burillo Escorihuela respectively. It was the same story in other WTA events like Charleston, Miami, Indian Wells, Dubai, and Melbourne.

Kaia has been competing in the Roland Garros since 2004 – during this time, she has made it as far as the quarterfinal just twice. In the last three years, she has had to settle for mid-round defeats.

Kanepi v Keys Prediction and Tip

Expect Keys to win this one in straight sets. The odds are stacked heavily in her favour and it is difficult to imagine Kanepi causing the upset – especially given her recent form – by knocking out the 20th seed.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Keys to win: 1/4
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6
