Donna Vekic v Emma Navarro Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players with Vekic winning it in straight sets at the Monterrey Open earlier this year.

Vekic Ends as Berlin Finalist

In what was an excellent run for Donna Vekic, the Croat made it all the way through to the final of the Berlin Open before Petra Kvitova got the better of her. What was so special about that run was Vekic had wins over Elena Rybakina and Maria Sakkari in the tournament on her way to the title-decider.

And that’s why she would come into this tournament with a lot of confidence and rhythm under her belt.

The world number 23 will have to battle one issue though and that’s the amount of tennis she has had to play in succession. Having featured in her first round match at the Berlin Open on June 19, she will be playing her sixth match in eight days when she takes to court on Monday against Emma Navarro.

This will be Vekic’s debut at this tournament, making it her third tournament on grass for the year preceding Wimbledon. While in form, it will be interesting to see how far can she go here.

Navarro Solid at Ilkley ITF Competition

Ranked 68th in the world, it’s a surprise Navarro did not feature in any of the WTA competitions on grass but she did well on the ITF circuit last week.

Playing at the Ilkley tournament on the ITF circuit, Navarro was a straight-set winner in all four of her matches that led her to the final. In the title-decider, however, Navarro fell to Mirjam Bjorklund 6-4, 7-5 but had done enough to hold on to her career-best ranking.

This is after Navarro had entered the season ranked 149th on the charts before going on to win three titles on the ITF circuit. All of them clay on clay.

And that’s the other aspect – Navarro is primarily a clay court player, with all her five tournament wins on the lower circuit having come on it. Having nearly made it her sixth title last week and on a surface other than clay adds an extra string to her bow.

Can she challenge Vekic here?

Vekic v Navarro Prediction and Tip

Vekic is a favourite with the only thing that can stop her is the exhaustion from playing too many matches in double-quick time. Can expect some fight from Navarro.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Games Handicap Navarro +4.5: 4/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 10/11
