Constant Lestienne had a really strong last year but this year has been quite ineffective for the French player. He’s dealt with a lot of physical problems as he retired from multiple matches this year, including recently. He generally plays his best tennis on faster surfaces though he hasn’t been that good on grass.
In all fairness, Lestinene hasn’t played on grass for the better of his career starting only in the last few years. He has an overall 7-10 record on the surface with five of those matches coming this year. He won two matches but lost the last three matches played.
He’s on a losing streak which continued his struggles this year that saw him only win 8 matches so far. He lost 15 of the 23 matches he played which isn’t great and is far from the level he produced last year.
This is a tricky matchup for him because his status is always a worry after multiple retirements this year. He’s not playing well lately, his confidence seems to be shattered so there is a lot to dislike about Lestinne heading into this matchup.

Kubler Wins Ilkley
Jason Kubler is a good grass player. The Australian proved it last year at Wimbledon making his way to the 4th round where he lost to Taylor Fritz in a match that was competitive. The American didn’t simply roll him but besides that, Kubler showed it this year as well.
His career record on grass is 29-14 which is really good. It was 9-2 last year and it’s 7-2 this year with some notable wins. Admittedly, most of those wins came on the challenger Tour against players that might not be ranked in the top 50 but it doesn’t really matter much.
Winning a trophy last week certainly gives him confidence for this event and unless fatigue proves a major factor, expect a few wins in Mallorca from him as well.
Lestinenne is a player he never faced before but he should be confident enough in taking him down, especially on grass. I expect him to do just that and quite easily too.
Lestienne v Kubler Prediction and Tip
This one is rather simple. Kubler played better this year, generally plays better on grass and is in better form. I’d add that he’s the better player generally so take him to win it comfortably.
